Remedial massage

Feeling sore? Maybe you’re nursing a sports injury, recovering from an accident or seeking relief from tense, aching muscles.

Our amazing team of remedial massage therapists, are here to help you.

Remedial massage

What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage is a hands-on treatment to relief damaged, seized, knotted or tense muscles.

It aims to treat the painful area and, where necessary, to identify and treat the cause of the pain. In sciatica, for example, you may be aware of pain radiating down your leg but the problem traces up to the root of your sciatic nerve in your lower back. Massage would therefore focus on both your leg and your lower spine.

A remedial massage therapist applies pressure to your injured soft tissues in order to speed up your body’s own healing processes. Sometimes the pressure is firm and deep. At other times, it may be lighter and more gentle, depending on your needs.

What can remedial massage help with?

Remedial massage can help with many different aspects of health and well-being.
Prevent or treat
sports injuries
Manage chronic painRelieve neck, shoulder
or back pain
Support mental healthManage aspects of chronic conditions such
as arthritis, cancer, anxiety or diabetes
Improve energy levels

Once your remedial massage therapist has asked about your symptoms and decided on a treatment approach, you’ll be asked to lie face-down on a massage table and given some towels to cover yourself with for privacy and warmth.

The massage therapist will then begin applying the right degree of pressure to the treatment area. The goal is to restore proper length, tone and tension to your muscles and tendons, which in turn helps to ensure your bones and joints are in the right position and well-supported by the surrounding soft tissues.

At Active Health Co, remedial massage can be a standalone treatment or part of your integrated treatment plan.

You might book in for a remedial massage at 10 am followed by chiropractic care at 11 am, for example.
Our remedial massage therapist, Derek, works closely with other members of our treatment team to ensure you receive coordinated care that meets your needs.
