From Head to Toe: Chiro’s More Than Just Fixing Your Back

Did you know that each week over 300 000 Australians visit a chiropractor?

Chiropractors are regulated health professionals, who provide an evidence-based, drug-free approach to spinal care, yet for many years, myths, misinformation, and stigmas have surrounded the profession.

At Active Health Co our highly trained and experienced chiropractors Conor and Brad work hard every day to provide the highest quality care to you and your whole family. We take our time assessing your condition, learning your struggles, and identifying your goals. We create a tailored and comprehensive treatment plan suited to your individual needs because we’re passionate about helping our patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

Our chiro treatment is about so much more than just cracking backs. Rushing through your care is not our style (we’re also pretty great guys if we do say so ourselves).

So here we’d like to address a few stigmas, correct misinformation and debunk some common myths. Because, it’s important to us you understand exactly how chiropractic treatment can help you, so you can make an informed decision for your health and the health of your family.

Chiropractors are university-trained plus government registered & regulated.

Firstly, and most importantly, you can rest assured, we’re not just making it up as we go.

We went to uni- for a long time!

Chiropractors are university-trained primary healthcare professionals.

To become a Chiropractor in Australia you need to complete a 5-year degree. The course includes anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and pathology. Chiropractors learn about the musculoskeletal system and the conditions that affect it, making them experts in managing musculoskeletal disorders.

Once qualified the education continues. Every chiropractor in Australia is required to keep up-to-date on the latest research and continually improve their skills.

Chiropractors in Australia are one of fifteen regulated health professions along with practitioners like doctors, nurses and dentists. They are subject to the oversight of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and must be registered with the Chiropractic Board of Australia.

Chiropractic care isn’t just for back pain

Sure, we spend a bit of time focusing on your back, but back pain isn’t all we’re about.

To explain this, we need to clarify what chiropractic care is.

At its core, chiropractic treatment concentrates on the connection between your spine (and other joints) and your nervous system. Chiropractors focus on aligning your spine to take pressure off your spinal cord and nerves. Misalignments in your spine make it hard for your brain and body to communicate effectively and can lead to a whole host of health issues.

Chiropractic care can help with many musculoskeletal conditions. If you’ve been dealing with back injuries, neck pain, and headaches visiting a chiropractor may help you get some much-needed relief. We could also help with sporting injuries, growth pain, sciatica, shoulder pain, arthritis and scoliosis, to name a few.

Furthermore, chiropractic care may support you to improve your overall health and well-being. We work with you to develop healthy habits, to help you prevent injuries and maintain good health over the long term.

Chiropractors do so much more than just ‘crack your back’

While caring for your spine by adjusting your joints is part of chiropractic care, we’re not just one trick ponies.

Chiropractors are also trained to promote good health through lifestyle advice, exercise prescription, rehabilitation, and patient education. We work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan and we take great care in accounting for your specific needs and goals in that plan.

As for chiropractic techniques, if you’re not keen on the ‘cracking’, that’s ok.

There are many different techniques we can use to adjust your joints and soft tissues or adjust your spine. Some people prefer a more hands-on approach, while others rather gentler methods. Whatever your preference, we have a range of techniques at our disposal to help you get the most out of your chiro treatment.

If you’re feeling nervous about getting adjusted, let us know. We can talk you through the process and answer your questions. We have no intention of doing anything you’re not comfortable with.
